LCD Soundsystem

ARTIST MAINARTIST INFORELATED ARTISTSLINKSREVIEWS

LCD Soundsystem debuted with Losing My Edge, a single that became one of the most talked-about indie releases of 2002. A self-effacing spoof of the outrageous pissing contests that often occur whenever music geeks cross paths ("I was there at the first Can show in Cologne," etc.) laid over a puttering electronic beat with the occasional bursts of discoid clatter, the track was also one of the first released on the DFA label. Several magazines and newspapers would eventually declare James Murphy, the man behind both LCD Soundsystem and DFA, to be one of the...[more]

Insound Staff Pick - 2008! James Murphy, aka LCD Soundsystem, returns with Sound of Silver March 20 on DFA/Capitol Records. Sound of Silver, the follow-up to the massively acclaimed and eponymous 2005 debut, was recorded over the summer of 2006 in a farm in upstate New York by Murphy and visitors from the big city including live band members Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney and Tyler Pope. There, between silver foil-covered walls, nine tracks were crafted into one of the pinnacle albums of 2007   [ read more ]

This self-titled release marks LCD Soundsystem's debut full-length. The album consists of entirely new material and a bonus CD of all previously released singles. This album was clearly made by someone who owns tons of records and cannot escape them when making his own music. Acid house, post-punk, garage rock, psychedelic pop, and at least a dozen other things factor into his songs, and he's not afraid to be obvious. This is the case with "Never As Tired As When I'm Waking Up" - drowsy/dazed John Lennon vi   [ read more ]

VINYL FORMAT. LCD Soundsystem, aka James Murphy, returns! Here he continues his work subverting both the rock and dance music establishments with a brand new 12" single simply titled "Yeah." This is more of an instant party than ever before, and it ends nowhere near where it begins, with an unbelievable climax of synths, drums, and Acid-era mayhem.

The latest release in a string of classic dance-rock crossover singles: first there was 'Losing My Edge,' then 'Give It Up,' and now James Murphy brings us 'Tribulations,' featuring remixes by both Tiga and Lindstrom along with the original and 'Shallow Version' that was recorded for a BBC Zane Lowe Radio 1 session in late 2004. Already a live highlight and the track everyone already seems to DJ out the most anyway, let's just say DFA has saved the catchiest most crowd-pleasing single for last. And now onto   [ read more ]

James Murphy's concept that a big rock song made for a movie could sound like more than a balls-out Big Rock Song, the track delivers in unexpected ways, from the edgy opening two minutes that alone could serve as the score to a car chase, to the sudden explosion of choirs, blissful harmonies, and large   [ read more ]
