Soon after the New Zealand band Two Lane Blacktop (named after the Monte Hellman movie) broke up in 2003, guitarist/vocalist Pip Brown moved to Sydney, Australia. She worked with several bands in the area, including Teenager and Pnau, before launching her own act in 2006. Adopting the name Ladyhawke (named after the Richard Donner movie), she handled instrumental duties herself and fashioned a fresh electronic sound. Ladyhawke aka New Zealand girl Pip Brown has had a busy year recording and touring in the UK and across the globe. She's played headline shows in Paris, Barcelona, Ibiza, Moscow, Australia and her native New Zealand. She also performed three times in one day at Glastonbury. She paused briefly at the beginning of July to play her first headline show in London to a sold out crowd. Unlike her indie-disco counterparts CSS, the Gossip and Ting Tings, New Zealand one-woman show Ladyhawke has yet to break through to the mainstream, despite possessing a much more polished sound that seems tailor-made for the upper reaches of the charts.
