2001, Kitty-Yo
VINYL!! Raz Ohara's 2nd longplayer on Kitty-Yo. Whereas the debut clearly was a funk record, close to early Prince recordings taking inn hiphop samples, this one takes over the thoughtful signs in Raz' music. Produced quietly for 6 months in Markus Waibel's Berlin studio, almost all tracks are pure vocal and guitar music, with hidden samples and overdubs here and there... A very personal record that possibly could have only been recorded under such seclusive circumstances. You might compare it to Nick Drake. Yet Raz' incredible soul voice positions this record still as well amongst artists such as Finley Quaye or even the calmer Lenny Kravitz recordings.
