2008, Big Dada
VINYL FORMAT. The third single from the critically acclaimed album Slime & Reason is perhaps the stand-out moment from a CD packed with stand-out moments. Produced by indie-funkster Metronomy, when Rodney Smith (aka Roost Manuva) heard the basic beat he felt it was "the perfect opportunity for me to get back to my gospel church essence-get back to the old church van, happy clappy blind faith!" As such, it's perhaps the most uplifting piece of music of a remarkable career, already described by the Guardian as "an anthem pitched somewhere near where Outkast might end up if they were produced by Sly & Robbie." The remixes come from Hot Chip and Toddla T & Ross Orton, and take the track straight to the dancefloor with nary even a bathroom break. A highlight for autumn, this is proper pop music for proper people.
