2004, Smalltown Supersound
Catchy live-set album. Hiorthøy's albums "Hei" and "Melke” got rave reviews for their unique sound and combination of weird beats, lo-fi/leftfield electronics, hip-hop, field recordings, jazz, folk music, and samples. But when playing live, Hiorthøy's music did not work out as he wanted -- so he created a live set that differs somewhat from the records, with faster speeds and louder beats (which occasionally end up as tiny techno raves). Both Hiorthøy and Smalltown Supersound received many requests for copies of his live material, so Hiorthøy collected and recorded his favorite live tracks. The material on this CD was performed at venues in Barcelona, Bergen, Berlin, Brussels, Chicago, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, London, New York, Normandy, Oslo, Rome, San Francisco, Skotbu, and Stockholm during 2002 and 2003. Since it differs from his records, and the tracks aren't from only one show, it works as a new album. Plus, when he's playing live, Hiorthøy pretty much takes it all to 11. Good stuff!
