2011, Capitol Records
VINYL FORMAT. As a fitting bookend to
the most successful year of the band's
career, The Decemberists will release a
new EP entitled Long Live the King.
Similar to the critically
acclaimed, chart-topping bow The King
is Dead, the EP is a mostly-acoustic
set of six Americana-based songs,
recorded around the same time as The
King is Dead, and including their
stunning cover of the Grateful Dead
track "Row Jimmy." The EP was produced
once again by Tucker Martine.
2010 has turned out to be the most active and successful year of the band's career. Beginning in late January with the #1 debut of their sixth album, The Portland-based band has gone on to tour the country numerous times, have major slots on festivals around the country including Newport Folk Festival, Sasquatch!, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and appear in the pages of Rolling Stone, Time, Entertainment Weekly, Spin, NY Times, LA Times as well as numerous features on NPR. The first single off the album, "Down By The Water" garnered the band their first #1 single – topping the AAA chart, which was followed by a second top 10 single at the format with "This is Why We Fight." The third single from the album, "Calamity Song" is rocketing up the AAA and Modern Rock charts and the band had the video for the song directed by "Parks & Recreation" creator Michael Schur.
