Look Around You

The debut uk release by I Am the World is finally here after nearly two years of delays and tweaking. I Am the World is Daniel Geller (co-founder of Kindercore Records) making the sounds and Amy Dykes laying in the vocals. "Look Around You," a taster from their debut LP, is a bright sounding, quirky and fun eletropop with tons of tongue in cheek dance floor savvy! Eschewing the notion of recording in a studio, I Am the World put together its signature brand of lo-fi, cut and paste electropop entirely on a beaten up laptop that geller claims to clean with his shirt. Geller cuts a rug millennium style, making the grooves jump and jerk in a way that is cheeky, fun and danceable. Over the top are Dykes' elegant vocals, which are as bright as the platinum blonde hair atop her head. Influences range from Saint Etienne and the Stone Roses to Martin Denny and Nancy Sinatra then back to Fatboy Slim and Cornershop. The single is backed with an electropop cover of the Stone Roses' "Shoot You Down."
