Los Campesinos!

ARTIST MAINARTIST INFORELATED ARTISTSLINKSREVIEWS

Celebrating a bratty, tongue-in-cheek viewpoint and a spunky indie-punk style similar to Art Brut while applying an assortment of instruments akin to Architecture in Helsinki, seven-piece group Los Campesinos! (roughly translating to "the Peasants") formed in 2006 in Cardiff, Wales. The lineup includes Aleksandra (keyboard, horn), Ellen (bass), Gareth (glockenspiel), Harriet (violin, keyboard), Neil (guitar), Ollie (drums), and Tom (guitar), with all members sharing vocals and the last name of Campesinos! The band played its first show in Ma...[more]

DELUXE EDITION. For something so light-hearted and hook-laden, Hold On Now, Youngster can be a tough, exhausting listen. Rumours that a fresh-faced pop mega-beast was emerging from the highways and byways of Cardiff first began to surface early in the Summer of 2006. Los Campesinos! played their first gig in May at a Student Union club night. The band formed at Cardiff University where the members still study amid a blaze of enthusiasm, friendship, chance acquaintances, and the desire to craft damn good pop music. They were, from the outset, a happy union. Citing everything from Pavement, to Bright Eyes, The Cure, Silver Jews   [ read more ]

Any debut EP that starts out with a couplet like that is immediately worth checking out, and Los Campesinos!' Sticking Fingers into Sockets more than lives up to its promise. That opening track, "We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives," is a blur of wordy verses broken up by a sweet-and-sour choral chorus that sounds like the Polyphonic Spree on a Broken Social Scene-style atmospheric downer.   [ read more ]
