2002, Acuarela
This is what the Clientele have to say about "Lost Weekend": "We literally risked our lives to make this, particularly in the evenings after recording, when just to get to the pub we had to repeatedly jump into bushes on the verge of a Kent A-road with trucks barreling past every five seconds and no pavements. Plus even being in post-apocalyptic, green, deserted and starving Kent, with horrible passively-smoked-Marijuana-induced creeping paranoia, breeding and multiplying in the agricultural silence and the whinnying of demonic horses. And of course, lest we forget, the partridge hunting season and its shotguns. Anyway this record is a five-track EP, of rare and evocative beauty. Take it from us, we've re-recorded it three times (once on eight-track, once in a 24-track studio, and a last one again on eight-track), cut about 70 takes of "Emptily Through Holloway," groaned at two blips of white noise randomly dumped onto the tape by eight-track machine and its oxidized wiring, due to one bottle of coke dropped over mixing desk, and abandoned two songs to boredom. How fitting that the whole thing was loosely based around the poetics of the hangover. We like this record, and you will too. You can buy it in all the usual places, the CD version is on Acuarela, and a 10" vinyl imprint is being released by Earworm."
