Roto: a celebration of drums, a collaboration of DC musicians, an experiment, a project, a band. Formed in April 1999 by DC stalwarts David Arbury and Carleton Ingram, Roto features John Davis and Harris Klahr from Q and not U, Justin Moyer from El Guapo and Edie Sedgwick, Charles Jamison from Land Speed Record, and introduces Kate Scorza Ingram and Andrew Blackwell. The initial concept of Roto was to play as a live band with the third member being a different drummer at every show. Arbury and Ingram wrote the melodies and encouraged the drummers to add their creative impression on the songs while taking a break from their respective bands for a night. After performing for a year and a half in this capacity, the time came to record "The Low Power Hour." The drummers selected several of their favorite Roto songs and added their part to the album.
