2006, Sonic Unyon
The original Maginot Line was comprised of concrete fortifications, bunkers, casements, tunnels and other defensive measures constructed by France along its borders with Germany, Italy and Belgium following World War I in the belief that it would give its renowned army extra time to mobilize in the event of an attack. It wasn't what you would call a roaring success. Let's hope that, 60 years from now, The Maginot Line, the third studio album from Toronto trio Raising The Fawn, isn't similarly thought of as something that had high hopes placed upon it but didn't live up to those expectations. If guitarist John Crossingham is to be believed - and who are we to doubt his word? - it won't.

"The Maginot Line is our best record yet, and not because that is the thing that you are supposed to say right now," he states. "It just couldn't have turned out any other way." Raising The Fawn recorded The Maginot Line earlier this year with producer Marty Kinack (Sarah Harmer, Hayden) and once again enlisted the artistic talents of Ernest Harris Jr., who also designed the cover of the group's previous album, 2004's The North Sea. The members of Raising The Fawn haven't been sitting on their hands waiting for the album to come out, however. Crossingham has been playing both guitar and drums for Broken Social Scene during their performances in Canada, the U.S. and Europe since September, and he'll be out with the collective again from January until mid-March. Bassist Scott Remila toured western Canada with the Violet Archers, the new outfit led by Rheostatic Tim Vesely, and will likely work on the group's next album. - Chartattack.com
