2004, Suicide Squeeze Reco
"Masculine Drugs/Destroying Yourself is too Accessible... is a literary mindf*ck set to a deathmarch of scowling, broken junk-blues rhythms and torturous guitar work from Hill and his Holy Smokes (which includes members of the Advantage and Pinback). There's plenty of free-jazz shake littered throughout noise-rock howlers like "The Idiot Found Food" and "Post-Pattern Battle Celebration" -- like Ornette Coleman backed by the original Wax Trax crew -- but the songs writhe and bark in an oddly organic fashion that's at odds with their nebbish façades. It's a soundtrack, and sometimes truly plays out like one. However, like any good composer, Hill has linked the disjointed musical pieces to the incoherent characters of his story, creating a symbiotic fusion of written word and musical accompaniment." - -- Jason Jackowiak, Splendid Magazine
