2001, Crouton Music
Telecognac's second full-length unveils a collection of recordings that seamlessly blend classical and electronic music. While their self-titled debut in 1997 focused on acoustic instrumentation, and their recent release with ex-Swans member Jarboe manipulated acoustic instruments, "Memory" is a further exploration into exclusive electronic sound and melody. Using both repetition and counterpoint, "Memory" represents the way human memory works and how it changes. The six tracks on this disc are filled with lush, sweeping melodies and surreal mutations of both found and created sound, combined to form a very dreamlike, yet foreboding work.
For this release, regular members Jon Mueller and Chris Rosenau join with longtime friend and past collaborator Scott Beschta (who has a handful of 12" electronic works under the monikers "Roommates" and "Magic Arrows") to create one of the most beautiful and haunting works any of them have produced; a sparse and building masterpiece of strings, bells, choirs, and indistinguishable electronics. This release comes packaged with six text inserts in a limited, numbered edition of 500.
