2009, True Panther Sounds
VINYL FORMAT. The ethereal music of Tamaryn (comprised of herself and her regular collaborative partner Rex John Shelverton) is staking a place of her own as today's torchbearer for the maladjusted melodies. While contemporaries stick to early-4AD restraint, Tamaryn's music reaches for a synthesis of her proto-goth influences, booming shoegaze channeled through her own unique and confident voice. Mild Confusion b|w Light Shadows is a clear evolution in vision from Tamaryn's previous releases.
On "Mild Confusion" bellowing bass and guitars slathered in reverb create a gauzy haze that she delivers her melodic incantations over. What this amasses to is a primordial soundtrack oceanic in its depth. Whether crashing with a squall of shrieking guitar and tribal drums or washing out in melodic, sun-stricken esoterica, the sound always shimmers and densely swells with a tidal churn. While her sound was once the spectacular sum of its parts, this new single points at a more evolved, focused, and utterly unique direction. Ceremonial, pulse-pounding, and densely aerial, the songs here are as atmospheric and blinding as the fog in which Tamaryn often performs.
