For the past six years, Seattle's Minus The Bear have orbited the music world like a distant meteor, fine-tuning their brand of idiosyncratic indie rock and discovering how technology can help enhance their unique pop vision - all of which is about to culminate with this, their latest full-length. Says bassist Cory Murchy, "I hate the term 'organic', but that's the one term I can think of when comparing this to our other records because there's a lot of weird electronic stuff going on there, but there's some really raw riffage as well."

User Reviews

Kevin - bethlehem, PA, united states
I've been reading a lot of reviews of this album and I have to admit that I'm shocked that so many people are saying bad things. Yes, it is the most serious of their efforts, and by far the least rocking, but as an album it shines as the perfect step in their career. The most cohesive of them all and a great showcase of what this band can really do. I suspect the unhappy people were hoping for more of the same old bear, but you had to see the changes coming, even on menos el oso the tone was more serious than previous albums. The weakest track in my opinion is "dr. l'ling", although it's still a good song. My top picks are "knights", "when we escape", "white mystery", and "ice monster". It's hard to pick favorites when all of the tracks are great. I do somewhat miss the rock but i think this is the best output from the bear to date. It's got the groove, it has the ability to take you places if you let it. If you don't own it, you should.
