Ok...I will be honest... have I met Miwa? Yes. Does she have that certain something where you are never really sure if you have figured her out? Yes. If I was in NYC, would I have have to tell her that I listened to the CD even if I didn't like it? Yes. I live in Paris now and could easily avoid listening to this CD constantly, but in those moments I need to hear her voice and get that sultry chanteuse to compliment the day or the mood I am in, she is the only answer. Miwa is incredible. The new CD adds even more depth to her repertoire. She is amazing live and amazing on CD. She invites you to share her music as opposed to push it down your throat like so many other musicians out there. I just gotta say..this CD is one of the best gifts out there.

As I was walking down the street, enjoying the mighty powerful and relaxing melody of an i-Touch on shuffle after a 12 hour work day, a silky, beautiful and uniquely charming voice climbed into my ear to take me off...to someplace romantic, somewhere throaty and more civilized and somewhere the "sun rise(s) and sun set(s)" in hazy guitar glows of orange and brilliant reds. It is peaceful in this voice and I am remembering the time I first held hands with a familiar lover in the falling summer darkness. I am listening to the song "Picnic." This album is full of genuine surprises. Miwa Gemini's influences seem to range from Country (Patsy Cline) to Alternative Rock (Ani DiFranco) into a funky rhythmic Blues (Leadbelly) and all the way down deep into Soul (think Ray Charles). This is a sultry combination of finely chosen instrumentals, hauntingly beautiful vocals, two danceable ditties and a wide range of modern, classically fine and universally human moments. As a whole, the album tells a romantic and Twin Peaks-ish tale. I am looking forward to album #2 already!
