2011, Self-Released
Knotted Cord is Sacramento-based Rebecca Keehner. She sings, plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and miscellaneous other instruments. The band's sound is a product of old equipment, noisiness, silences, conflicting rhythms, recording manipulations, and experimentation. Moth-Shaped Flame is Knotted Cord's first release. The sounds of the songs describe a brain's thoughts as it is displaced from the body it lives in by an electric shock, and leaves to wander in a geometric wilderness, attains enlightenment, and re-forms to return to the body creating a new force in the universe. Aligned with this, the four songs on the EP go from bright to dark, tension to balance, unstructured and chaotic to structured and repetitive, a few instruments to layers of sounds, and from pure instrumental to including vocals with harmony.
