2011, Brainfeeder
VINYL FORMAT. Five years after the 2000 debut album of Mr. Oizo, Analog Worms Attack, Mr. Oizo returned with his second album, Moustache (Half a Scissor). It was heard by a young man in LA by the name of Steve Ellison. Steve is now better known as Flying Lotus and his label, Brainfeeder, is re-releasing Moustache in an edition of 1000 vinyl copies. It's a thing of amazing, demented beauty which Ellison felt deserved to be heard again and reassessed.
Always a few steps ahead, or aside, from the rest of the scene, Mr. Oizo composed a unique digital blend of dirty beats and distorted sounds. Free expression with no restraints; a constant and sharp creativity. Mr. Oizo is a complex personality, and you find him where don't expect him. On the top of the charts or beneath avant-garde, his sounds and his visions surprise us, destabilize us or even trouble us. In his universe, neutrality does not exist. Passages and bridges in between sound, image and writing are constantly broken down to be reinvented. With Moustache (Half a Scissor), Mr. Oizo goes as far as he went with his debut album Analog Worms Attack. Album format and track structure are totally dynamited and crushed. Climax arrives in a rush with hectic rhythms and stumping bass. An emancipated and angry album, or another manifesto?
