Originally released on Quarterstick Records in 1996, Music for Egon Schiele is the soundtrack to a piece of dance and theater that debuted at the Itinerant Theater Guild in 1995 in Chicago. Based on the life of the romantic and controversial Viennese painter, Egon Schiele was written and directed by Stephen Mazurek, who headed the group of performing artists. Rachel Grimes composed the music and performed it with two string musicians during the run of the performance. As Rachel's second album, Music for Egon Schiele contains a more stripped down and immediate musical focus than their first album, Handwriting. The playing is primarily piano and cello throughout the recording. Although the footsteps laid on the first record are here, this is definitely more of the road less traveled. An interpretation of emotions and colors played out on the stage and embodied by the Rachel's to capture expression of colors and tones in musical notation. These songs are not sparse, they're beautiful. They build, they crash, and they make you with you knew more about life the mysteries it holds. Since releasing their first album in 1995, Rachel's has performed in libraries, churches, rock dungeons, ballrooms, gardens, bowling alleys, and movie theaters across the world. They have work with filmmakers, dance companies, stage productions, printmakers, and photographers. Their recordings and shows have been described as "subversives with a cello," "classical post-rock," "post-classical," and "lo-fi Louisville loafers."
