Trypnotica (CD)
The fare of My Scarlet Life is sultry mesmerization. Add in the samples and dual female vocals and if this is wallpaper, it is a 3-D bedroom paper hanging party. Fans of Dead Can Dance are well-prepped for this experience. The exquisite album is the best I can remember of any kind from northern Illinois is a long time. Trypnotica is mysterious music for heavy petting in cemeteries. Programmer and keyboardist Preston Klik is formerly of Big Hat and recorded with Smashing Pumpkins and Ministry. Well deserved of its title, this recording is a real masala of the mind for swaying your hips or spinning your thoughts. Flute, jaws harp, darbuka and a cavalcade of instrumentation are brought to bear as tools in this deceptively simple sounding sonic sculpture. As Ovid says in Art of Love, "Ars est celare artem." or, "Art lies in concealing art." ~ Thomas Schulte, All Music Guide
