RESTOCK. Wow & Flutter core members Cord Amato, Jack Houston and Amy Turner have teamed up with Chris Larson and Donnie Machado again on this new collection of songs, their fourth release for Jealous Butcher Records. Bringing to mind Godspeed You Black Emperor! and June Of 44, Names alternates between the full, rich clarity of a rich string section and the brittle, almost gothic urgency of guitars. Feedback is persistent, sometimes hovering hazily in the background, other times venturing sharp, exploratory stabs between the notes of the primary melody. Even the squeak of fingers on guitar strings, heavily reverbed, has its place in this intimate dialogue. Delving deep into brooding musical interludes and shining with little gems of pop light, Names is a step beyond the usual post–rock landscape.
