Over the past few years, Case has been making a name for herself in both indie rock and country circles as a solo artist and as a member of The New Pornographers. On this record, she's backed by a full band featuring The Sadies and steel guitar whiz Jon Rauhouse. Her majestic yet sublime singing voice, her poetic songwriting, and her musical vision, which reconstructs a century's worth of American music, has won her acclaim from all quarters.[ read more ]

Case cowrote all of the album's 12 songs, and the material strikes a more deeply personal note this time out. Case's vocals are superb from front to back, as smooth and fiery as good brandy, and her revolving circle of musicians are subtle and beautifully evocative, balancing sorrow and good times with an easy grace. Neko Case's fourth studio album, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, is simply one of the most anticipated releases of 2006. Collaborating with the likes of The Band's Garth Hudson, Calexico's Joey Burns and John Covertino, and Giant Sand's Howe Gelb, Neko displays a newfound love of studio artistry on songs like 'Dirty Knife,' with its dark orchestral sweep, and the Ennio Morricone meets Brenda Lee classicism of 'Star Witness.' To help create this record Neko brought together a grand cast of scarily talented musicians. Among them are Calexico, Howe Gelb, Kelly Hogan, and members of the Sadies. Together they forged    [ read more ]
