The Tigers Have Spoken (CD)
Over the past few years, Case has been making a name for herself in both indie rock and country circles as a solo artist and as a member of The New Pornographers. On this record, she's backed by a full band featuring The Sadies and steel guitar whiz Jon Rauhouse. Her majestic yet sublime singing voice, her poetic songwriting, and her musical vision, which reconstructs a century's worth of American music, has won her acclaim from all quarters.![]()

| I have a love affair with live music. I think that the live performance is the ultimate measure of a musical artist. It is the exhibition of a work of art. No one likes bad art... The Tigers Have Spoken is good art. Neko Case, of the New Pornographers, is definitely gaining a name for herself, especially since the release of her most recent album, Fox Confessor, but she has been putting on great shows for quite a while. Tigers is a highlight of some of Neko's best live performance, packed with awesome covers, INCLUDING LORETTA LYNN'S ''Rated X''! I really enjoy ''Train From Kansas City'' and ''This Little Light of Mine''. These songs are superb, but Neko's strong, classic, soulful voice is what really makes them. If you haven't heard her, you should. Neko Case's voice has that signature to it. It's so unique, yet recognizeable, like Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez, yet stronger. It is, to quote Linda Richmann, ''Like butta!'' There are no showtunes involved however. (Hahaha! Shutup, Barbra ROCKS.) The songs! The voice! The Sadies!!! It's grade A, certified awesome. And you might get a little street cred. I'm convinced post-country/folk is the new post-rock. | |
