This is the brilliant debut of the new project from Karate leader Geoff Farina. New Salt features Geoff Farina (guitar -- Karate, Secret Stars), Dan Littleton (guitar -- from the American indie-rock band Ida, also well known for his solo recordings and his album with Tara Jane O'Neil), and the jazz drummer Luther Gray. New Salt contains stylish studio compositions fluctuating between instrumental modern rock and elegant jazz. The idea for this recording came about after a few outstanding performances scoring silent movies live in several European art festivals: Film (Samuel Beckett, 1965), Emak Bakia (Man Ray, 1927), and Un Chant D'Amour (Jean Genet, 1950). This amalgamation of improvisation and film produced stately music that combines jazz, drones and freeform rock.
