Chicago's art-damaged post-punks New Black return with a sophomore CD that's a modern hybrid of the new-wave/no-wave pop/punk dynamic. What might just be the album the x-ray spex never wrote, has a visceral undertone that's drugged out and creepy. Playing with frenetic beats and frantic riffs, there's a duality here that both decadent and distorted. At times dance-y and flamboyant, others fast and flagrant, always on the razors edge. The dueling girl/boy vocals of Patti Gran (guitar) and Liam Kimball (bass), where innuendo meets evil genius, is equally savage and sexy. 11 tracks that bump and grind and feel so good.
