Michelle S.This is messy and frantic post-punk at its arguably very best. Nine Times is reminiscent of a girlier Bloc Party, embryonically spliced with Sleater-Kinney, plus a dose of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Pretty Girls Make Graves (fans, take notice). One could easily accuse them of writing the same song nine times- what a self-fulfilling prophecy!- but some stick with you more than others. And all are short and fully danceable, if that dancing happens to look somewhat spastic. Think of it as a user-friendly handbook to riot grrrl sensibilities, save a few romantic notions toward the last track.
