MTV Unplugged in New York (DVD)
Nirvana's legendary 1993 MTV Unplugged performance will finally be released on DVD via Geffen/MTV Networks/UMe in both Dolby Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound. Unplugged In New York features the complete, unedited 66- minute performance, including the songs "Something In The Way" and "Oh Me," which were not included in the initial broadcast. The DVD also has five previously unreleased rehearsals as well as MTV News' "Bare Witness" interviews with the band, the MTV production staff and fans in the audience.
The performance first aired on MTV on December 14, 1993 and featured guest appearances from members of the Meat Puppets, as well as a variety of cover songs from artists such as Leadbelly, the Vaselines and David Bowie. Although sticklers for detail have of course noted that the band's performance of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World" featured, in clear violation of the show's mission statement, electric guitar.
