2011, Total Life Society
VINYL FORMAT. Formed in Cleveland Ohio, Scarcity Of Tanks make the kind of intelligent, impressionistic free-rock that's never really going to shift too many records, but before you get an earful of of splenetic discordance from the Jukebox and move on, know that this band (presumably named after a dearth of armoured personnel carriers) will grow on you very quickly indeed. The wordy splurge of 'I Am Wrist' is like a beatnik take on Sonic Youth if they were only ever fronted by Lee Ranaldo, while the improv free-associations on 'Head Of Electrons' attack you from a different angle, casting wiry lead guitar shapes with serious style. If the cover-mounted doodles have a look of familiarity about them it's because they've come from the hands of regular sleeve-scribbler Devendra Banhart. Which is a bonus.
