Noble Hatch was the name of a mullet-wearing, skoal-dipping air brush artist and real live boy I had a mighty crush on in the sixth grade," says Amy Miles of the name (and partial inspiration) of her new album. Some of the songs go back to that raw and melodramatic time in a young girl's life, when things are dangerous and boys seem to be the answer to it all. Steeped in Southern gothic tradition and an obsessive love of Prince, Kim Deal and Dolly Parton, the true genius of Noble Hatch lies in Amy's ability to convey a staggering diversity of sounds, while maintaining sonic flow and thematic unity. Amy's whiskey-soaked, haunting voice has been winning over the press, as features in Interview and Elle magazine attest. Amy's friends helped out, making the recording process "super fun..a party at times," with members of the Gravel Pit, David Byrne, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the Vitamen, and even Amy Poehler of Saturday Night Live lending their talents.
