Nucular Aminals

Nucular Aminals are a serious band and you need to pay undivided attention their sound.
The Aminals were formed in Portland Oregon by four distinctly rare species of musician who specialize in perfect pop melancholy. In 2007 Robert Comitz (of Hornet Leg, November Witch) and Erin Schmith decided to augment their partnership in the San Francisco duo Marriage + Cancer with fellow music enthusiast Jheremy Grigsby and relocate to the great Northwest. Upon arrival, they joined forces with ace drummer Wiley Hickson (Total Bros.), who rounded out the Nucular sound perfectly and collectively they have never looked back since.
On repeated listens one might hear the morose echoes of Magnetic Fields, the most tasteful moments of the best Nirvana tracks, the Doors jazzy musical intertwining, Daniel Johnstons' cerebral lyricism, and most certainly Os Mutantes' insistent sonic playfulness. Robert's flavorful guitar musings and soothingly nasal vocal delivery provide the immediate focus, but uncover all of the layers and collective expertise reveals itself. Jheremy's bass stylings are the propulsive pace that holds the entire rhythmic canvas together like warm glue, all the while providing the perfect tenor toned vocal partner for Comitz, a talented accomplice indeed. We can tell instantly that Wiley is a seasoned veteran on the traps but his youthful swing and sway keep the Aminals tempos at a zen-like inhale and playful exhale so the listening audience can breathe easily. The (not so) secret weapon in this immense arsenal is Erin's impressionistic keyboard brushstrokes. Like Manet, Schmith's style is purely individual and her gliding and fanciful fingerwork inspire fascination and wide smiles to listener (especially this one).
The Nuculars tour and perform quite often, playing with respectable groups like Harlem, Grass Widow, The Intelligence, and Nodzzz. They have a debut album coming soon on the legendary K Records and are probably working on brand new concoctions in Robert's basement laboratory as you are reading this! Seeing them live is a must and if you are lucky (and you will be) they will even serenade you in Portuguese!!-cs
