Intronaut originated as a side project for Sacha Dunable (Anubis Rising) and Danny Walker (Exhumed, Uphill Battle), but metal fans might hope they make it a permanent gig once they hear their Goodfellow debut, Null. The songs on their debut EP blend intricate structures, which owe a debt to prog, with heaviness that owes a debt to the devil. Yep, it's heavy, but not always so; the songs clock in at over six minutes, giving them time to shift and develop, to rise and swell, and to breathe in longer, vaguely jazz-tinged instrumental sections where the listener can catch a breath or two themselves before the pummeling begins again in earnest. The vocals are buried in the mix at times, but somehow it seems only fair that these dense guitars overpower all else. Goodfellow has quickly established themselves as a label for fans of heavy music, but also as a label that can convert more followers with consistent quality, and Null is no exception.
