Born David Madson in Cincinnati, OH, in 1976, producer Odd Nosdam first began experimenting with looping as a teenager, which eventually led to the purchase of a Dr. Sample and eight-track player while he was a student at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Soon, he was working with future labelmates Doseone and Why? (with whom he formed cLOUDDEAD), and in 2001 his debut, Plan 9: Meat Your Hypnotist, came out on Mush Records. Odd Nosdam then moved to California to become part of the Anticon team, producing albums for many of its members and releasing his own...[more]

An Odd Nosdam record is more than music. More and more, David P. Madson's albums are collections of wordless short stories and scenes, intricately woven audio scrapbooks that buzz with singular experience as lived through the eyes and ears of one very electric human conduit. 2005's threateningly dense and gorgeous Burner was built amongst bad relationships, nasty headspaces and East Oakland situations, but Level Live Wires is the distinct product of inspiration, bizarre happenstance and wonder, lived [ read more ]

Burner is a culmination, a high water mark, a work that undeniably declares the presence of an artist who has ripened into his prime. A radical departure from odd nosdam's past productions, Burner is a dense composition in which the seams between found sound, obscure records, a wide range of instruments and instrumentalists, vocalists, and field recordings are expertly concealed. His trademark lo-fi aesthetic--familiar to listeners of both cLOUDDEAD albums and his previous collections of instrumental sketch [ read more ]

With the opening single for his forthcoming full-length, Burner - a true debut full length album as opposed to a collection of instrumentals - odd nosdam emerges from the smoking ruins of cLOUDDEAD, his brilliant and star-crossed collaboration with doseone and why?. Evidence of a renewed license to uncompromisingly chase the detours and dictates of his own inimitable aesthetic, untitled three is from Burner's early stages, where nosdam borrowed a dusty micro-Moog and began layering melodic lines.
