2009, Reprise Records
Reprise's restoration of the Bee Gees' legendary late '60s pop masterpiece is an important milestone in the ongoing restoration of the group's celebrated catalog. Originally released as a double album in 1969, Odessa marked an early creative peak for the Brothers Gibb, and drew comparisons to the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in its depth and vision. The new three-disc Odessa: Deluxe Edition is presented in packaging that reproduces the original release's lavish and distinctive red-flocked cover. The set includes album's original stereo (Disc 1) and mono (Disc 2) mixes, marking the first time Odessa has been released in mono in the U.S. Bonus Disc 3 features twenty previously unissued demos and alternate takes of all but one song from the original album. Also featured are two songs from the Odessa sessions not included on the original release - "Pity" and "Nobody's Someone" - as well as a 30-second spot promoting the title.
