Now, of Montreal have created their masterpiece with Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? It's an irresistible and remarkable album, sounding like a logical extension of the erratic indie-disco sounds of The Sunlandic Twins. However, Hissing Fauna is also the most personal   [ read more ]

Hailing from Athens, Of Montreal have carved their own niche in the indie-pop world, establishing themselves as a uniquely twisted band that thrills fans with compelling live performances, delights critics with their constant innovations and refinements, and continually showcases their musical evolution that culls together influences as varied as Brian Eno, Television, Prince, and The Shins. The Sunlandic Twins is their most cohesive and adventurous record to date. It plays out like an electro pop op   [ read more ]

This, Of Montreal's fourth album, was released in 2001. It's the band's most ambitious album with songs of wonderful madness featuring strange musical interludes, a detective story, gentle love songs, and avant pop songs, ending with an 18-minute piano opus.

The sixth full-length and first for Polyvinyl from this Athens, GA band is bit of a departure from previous releases. There's a '70s Afro beat with an '80s new wave influence, and the songs are full of danceable electro hooks. Pop perfection riddled with hooks and ebullient vocals -- highly recommended for fans of Elephant 6 pixie dust!

SOUND SAVER. An interesting follow up to the highly engaging "Coqolicot" epic conceptual masterpiece, "Arboretum" lets Of Montreal remind us of their amazing ability to craft perfect rock songs. An album where each song is provocative and challenging but still danceable and easy to sing along with.

Of Montreal's second release for Bar None, "The Gay Parade," is a place where one can go to be in the company of funny creatures, eccentric characters, and bizarre architecture. It's an escape from the everyday, from disappointment and disillusion and the dangerous unpredictability of love. Of Montreal is the brainchild of Kevin Barnes, and his band has long been part of the Elephant Six collective of young, prolific musicians that includes Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, and Music Tap   [ read more ]

Hailing from the '90s-resurgent Athens, Georgia scene, unofficial homebase to the Elephant 6 collective, Of Montreal is perhaps the least publicized band in the Elephant 6 stable but not because they make the least-worthy music. To the contrary, Cherry Peel is one of the most unabashedly pretty releases from that group, and, in fact, stands apart from most everything in the pop scene due to its simple, unassuming innocence. The vocals of songwriter Kevin Barnes are achingly heartfelt and puppyish, and his s   [ read more ]
