2002, Sound @ One
On Sunday is the initial release of recorded material from Enos Slaughter: a collaboration of three rieripherial, improvising characters based in NYC. Between the years of '00 and '02 David Shuford (of No-neck Blues Band and Suntanama), Marc Orleans (Sunburned Hand of the Man) and Carter Thornton (IZITITIZ) met regularly at Harlem's Hinthouse, documenting each meeting on an insect field recorder. The music on this album is born from those sessions. The resulting material contrasts heavily abstract, electric, arhythmic explorations with foot stomping, acoustic, drone centered swimming. A description of the instrumentation may serve to describe the music better than any genre comparison: banjos, clavinet, trombones, bowed and plucked strings, disoriented electric guitars and a range of sounds from unidentifiable sources can all seen at different times approaching and receding just below the surface. Aptly described by a regualr onlooker as 'mind erasure'.
