2009, Barsuk
VINYL FORMAT. Say Hi is Eric Elbogen,
who wrote and recorded his new album,
Oohs and Aahs, at his home studio
over the course of 2008.
"Oohs and Aahs... is more of what we've come to expect from Elbogen, with guitars and synths dueling it out for pop supremacy underneath his controlled vocals. "Dramatic Irony" starts with a skeletal guitar figure, but booming drums give the track body; a few flourishes of brass keep it moving. "One, Two ... One" has moments when the programmed hand claps and keyboards fondly look back to the '80s synth-pop heyday, only to let its guitars grind away any sense of nostalgia the track might have. "Hallie and Henry" and "Maurine" take in the same sort of depressed melodies as Death Cab, only to spit them out triumphantly as forceful pop moments." - Matt Schild
