2009, Pickled Egg
Now are a London-based ensemble, who fuse elements of krautrock, free jazz, lo-fi, synth pop and music from various ethnic sources, to create their own unique, highly inventive sound. Ooodipoomn is the band’s fifth album, - their second on Pickled Egg - as they continue to refine their special blend of experimental sounds and pop. The group have collaborated with a host of visionary underground musicians, including Damo Suzuki (a joint album, ‘The London Evening News’ was released on TRI recordings in 2007), Charles Hayward (This Heat), Mike Watt (The Stooges/The Minutemen/Firehose/Ciccone Youth), Norways' Metronomicon collective and Salvatore, Kaori Tsuchida (The Go! Team). Now have performed live with such luminaries as Faust, Circle, Tunng and A Hawk & A Hacksaw, and they also run their own regular club night in London’s Stoke Newington, which they use as a platform for musical experimentation for themselves and other musicians. The Now line-up has undergone many changes since Justin Paton first formed it in 1998, with the current incarnation consisting of: Justin Paton - voice, guitar, synth, percussion, bass; Angela Last - bass, voice, synth, guitar, percussion; Richard Thomas - cello, voice, melodica, percussion; James Kirkwood guitar; Kanchi Wichmann - keyboard, voice, guitar; Georgina Staines - drum-kit, voice. As on the earlier albums Frisbee Hot Pot (Pickled Egg), The Hepadaboo (Flau), The London Evening News(TRI) and Oisheedy Anna (Co.r_dance), the band are supported by a cast of friends and past members including Rebecca Closure, Sitar Elvis Chris Cook and Kaori from The Go! Team. NOW could be described as catchy, contemporary, inventive, exotic, melodious and harmonious 21st century pop music.
