2010, Lo Bit Landscapes
VINYL FORMAT. 'Nihiti's latest, Other People's Memories, is a darkly textural, primarily instrumental album that is stunning in its own diversity. Tracks like "The Return of Kind Ropes (Laku Noc, Dusan K)" and "The Ringing In (The Sun Is Rung)" are musically organic with tunes framed around rolling percussion, piano and clean guitar riffs. Meanwhile, tracks like "Black Cars (A Sinistra)" and "Her War With History" are stuttering, electronic cuts based on mechanical rhythms and a chorus of bleeps, bloops and other "unnatural" sounds. And although it is a primarily instrumental affair, Nihiti isn't afraid to use voice as an additional instrument on cuts like "Campfires of Rostov on Don (Will Your Ashes Burn Forever?)," or to simply layer a wash of tumbling lyric atop their complex melodies on cuts such as "The Ringing In (The Sun Is Rung)." As a result, Other People's Memories is an extremely engaging album that challenges the listener's expectations while never straying too far from a catchy hook or pleasantly aggressive sonic assault.' - Musical Pairings
