Interbellum is an expression of Brendan Burke's interest in open-ended musical forms, acoustic manipulation and applied mathematics. Acoustic recordings of Burke playing, piano and cello from Fred Lonberg-Holm (Vandermark Five, Lightbox Orchestra, etc.) are mingled with synthetic and manipulated sound. Treacly melodies wend a haunted expanse and then slowly course back to whence they came. Ostensibly classical sounds sit side by side with contemporary digital ones, the vibrations of cello strings or piano chords sampled and transformed digitally. Charred chamber music.
