Oxxxes (CD)
New album from the Oxes! This south side of Baltimore trio of Natalio Fowler (guitar), Marc Miller (guitar), and Christopher Freeland (drums) want their reputation to precede them, and as part of the Baltimore Rowdy Collective, they go about throwing cogs in the wheel of everyday life. This attitude enters their musical vision as brutal, endlessly changing instrumental math rock with a tendency towards metal antics. Onstage they stand on black boxes, carry wireless guitars, and confront crowds while delivering what seems to be improvisational but is actually highly organized music. This will rock your socks off!

| I enjoy "heavy" rock music. I just can't take all the fake, angsty lyrics, pop-song structures, and barking vocalists. I never thought I would find a band to satisfy my desire for heavy music until I heard this album. Oxes have made a record that will have you reliving the days when metal was cool. Two guitarists and one drummer create a full sound and show that vocalists are really just in the way when it comes to rockin' out. And while most heavy rock is full of pretension and self-importance, with titles like Boss Kitty and Take and Free Miami, you can tell Oxes are just looking to make good music and have fun. Some of the highlights include Boss Kitty, Half Half & Half, Kaz Hyashi '01, and Chyna Chyna Chyna. And if you don't get the record, the least you can do is see them in concert - they put on a show like no other! | |

| The music is great but the album cover I have to hide from my kids. Hard Rock is back when you turn this wax around. | |
