2003, Kanine
Three young men (two from Brooklyn, one from the dregs of Manhattan) who, over the course of their short existence, have managed to create something distinct and special within the current New York City music scene. At a period that some are calling a “renaissance,” the band’s timing couldn’t be better. However, instead of calculating their sound to mimic New York in ’78, Athens in ’81 or DC in ’92, Oxford Collapse is firmly rooted in their own version of Brooklyn in ’03. By taking cues from those who came before them, rather than merely imitating the bands that they love, the group has produced music that defies simple categorization or labeling. Understandably, people have been having a hard time categorizing the band's sound, but all seem to agree that the dance element is undeniable.
