"This record carries the Raymond Pettibon artwork with pride. It's minimalist, non-conformist, anti-fashion: the most SST band besides Black Flag. Unlike some of their later work (which is still great), this is fast, almost too fanatic stuff, played like this was going to be their only release. Even if it was, I would still not use the Minutemen's name in vain, for whenever I carry a book or a video or whatever that has some kind of political or social message, I hear the song 'Definitions' in my head. The Minutemen were 'wordy' without being talkative. They were intellectual without being educated. They played, as they said it, working man's songs, and those are meant to be (just listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival, one of their faves) short and powerful.
