The (Im)possibility of Longing (MP3)
The (Im)possibility of Longing was recorded and mixed from May to December of 2003 by drummer Christopher Ward at his Philadelphia studio, and then mastered by Alan Douches, who has worked with the likes of Ester Drang, Joan of Arc, and Pedro the Lion. Ward describes the album: ?We set out to make a record that is a narrative exploration of the concept of hope; more specifically, one person's attempt to abandon his community's hope, and the consequences thereof.? And each song is a piece in the narrative thread, taking us through the protagonist's conflicted relationship with those around him, reaching its operatic conclusion in ?Icarus?. Here, his action meets its inescapable conclusion: the answers and reactions of friends. Says Ward, ?The narrative is not constituted by lyrics alone, the music shapes the actions and identifies the attitude of the characters and tone of events.? The (Im)possibility of Longing serves as a testament to Pattern is Movement's commitment to honest and intentional songwriting that ?goes beyond art for art's sake.?
