Stowaway (MP3)
Pattern is Movement's second album, Stowaway, was recorded June of 2005 in San Francisco at Tiny Telephone and 15th Street studios by Scott Solter who has engineered records for John Vanderslice, Spoon, Mountain Goats, Tarentel, the Court and Spark, and
Ester Drang.
For Stowaway, Pattern is Movement expanded their instrumentation and their treatment of sound with cello and viola arrangements, percussion ensembles, and tape speed edits. The product resulted in what has been called 'a Rogers and Hammerstein
performance inside a steel mill.'
Pattern is Movement's debut full-length, The (Im)possibility of Longing, is a critically acclaimed, 'mathesque' synthesis of narrative and melodic pop articulation. The(Im)possibility of Longing received critical praise for its outstanding vocals, musical
performance, and storyline.
Pattern is Movement is from Philadelphia and signed to Noreaster Failed Industries who rereleased
The (Im)possibility in August 2004. The band has toured extensively since early2004 in support of The (Im)possibility, sharing the stage with such bands as The Album Leaf, The American Analog Set, The Appleseed Cast, Chin Up Chin Up, Del Rey, The Gossip, John Vanderslice, Mayday, Minus the Bear, Old Canes, Tristeza, The Velvet Teen, Vietnam, Viva Voce, and Wheat. Pattern is Movement has also performed at MacRock (twice) and
PopMontreal, festivals that respectively featured Pedro the Lion and Franz Ferdinand and will be appearing at CMJ 2005.
