2004, V2
Like most originals, The Icarus Line have endured their share of abuse, critical condescension, and even outright hostility. But naysayers' mouths will be filled with their own feet once they hear "Penance Soiree." If you've been longing for a band that encompasses everything that rock 'n' roll was originally about -- danger, excitement, sex, drugs, & rock 'n’ roll -- then look no further. The Icarus Line is here.
A leer seems to lurk behind every word that vocalist Joe Cardamone sings, spits, or screams into his microphone. Jagged, crunching, erratic, but rhythmically right every second of the way, is the rest of the band: Aaron North, Alvin DeGuzman, Don Devore, and Jeff "The Captain" Watson. The Icarus Line's sound isn't one of a classic punk band, but their ethos, sense of integrity, and confrontational nature is VERY punk rock. But they sound more like dangerous rock music. Some of their influences, which filter down into their music, are: The Stooges, Black Flag, Led Zeppelin, The Jesus Lizard, Mudhoney, The Velvet Underground, Billy Childish, Funkadelic, Spacemen 3, The Wipers, Suicide, Joy Division, The Who, Gram Parsons, and Primal Scream. Let's put it this way: If good rock 'n' roll were a steamroller, they’d be lying under it.
