2009, The Control Group
People Eating People is the solo project of Seattle musician Nouela Johnston. After the demise of her band Mom Frere in early 2007, she traveled the world as a hired keyboard player for several bands, most notably Say Hi, before returning to Seattle to record her debut album. With the help of local musicians SMark Gajadhar (Blood Brothers, Champagne Champagne, Past Lives), Ben Libay (Sirens Sister), and Christiaan Morris (Black Houses), Johnston created a bittersweet and highly personal album driven by churning, jazz-influenced piano riffs, soulful vocals, and a dark, almost dangerous sense of story-telling reminiscent of Tori Amos and Regina Spektor.
