2004, Mute
If you like avant garde electronica and music with political philosophies, you're going to like Einstürzende Neubauten. This album strays a bit from their industrial-inclined earlier releases, perhaps because the group took input from their fanbase during the recording. They even installed a webcam in their studio and requested input, which resulted in shelved tracks being reprised and eventually used for the final mix. And while the band hasn’t abandoned their commitment to the technical side of sound, the principle of the machine, or the sound of materials, it’s a bit softer this time around. (In fact, two themes on the album are wind and storms.) A pleasantly surprising release.
