Phantasm

There are at least seven artists that have used the name Phantasm, including a viol consort, a fictional anime band, and several defunct rock and metal bands. They are listed below in chronological order.

1. Phantasm (1980s), an American thrash/speed metal band, included former Metallica member Ron McGovne, Hirax's singer Katon W. DePena, and Jim Korthe, former lead singer of 3rd Strike and Dimestore Hoods, on the drums. They released two demos in the mid-1980s.

2. Phantasm (1988-1993), an American death metal band, was born out of the ashes of Human Evil near the end of 1988. Founded by Tony Brandt (vocals & drums) and Scott Mckillop (guitar), the band released a demo, "Lycanthropy," in April 1990, and a second demo, "The Abominable," in October 1992.

The band played four Metalfests with Slayer, Sepultura, Impetigo, Deicide, and Obituary, as well as other shows with Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Entombed, and others. In March 1995 they re-released "The Abominable" with one new song, "Gut Suckers," as their first full-length CD. Later that year the band broke up over personal differences.

3. Phantasm (1992), an American heavy metal band, released one album in 1992.

4. Phantasm (1992-1993) was a Russian band that released a a demo, "Always Say Die," in 1992 and an album, Keeper of Death, in 1993 before splitting up.

5. Phantasm (1994-present), an award-winning quartet of viols, was founded in 1994 by Laurence Dreyfus. Their repertoire is centered on 16th- and 17th-century English consort music. The quartet's numerous albums include works by composers William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, John Jenkins, William Lawes, John Ward, and others.

Based in London, Phantasm tours extensively in Europe, North America, and East Asia. Laurence Dreyfus (treble viol and director) was born in Boston, Mass. Phantasm began as a quartet with Dreyfus and Wendy Gillespie (treble viols), Jonathan Manson (tenor viol) and Markku Luolajan-Mikkola (bass viol). Emilia Benjamin and Mikko Perkola later joined the ensemble.

6. Phantasm (2004-2006) was a three-man American indie/progressive rock band from the New York/Pennsylvania border area. They released one EP, Enter the Phantasm EP (2004), and one full-length album titled Clever. Cunning. Actor. (2006).

7. Phantasm (?????? Fantazumu) is a fictional band from the anime ChäoS;HEAd, released in 2008 and 2009. The lead singer was voiced by Yui Sakakibara in Japanese and Stephanie Sheh in English. See: ??????(FES cv.????)
