2007, Hush
Chris Funk, lead guitarist for The Decemberists and special guest of the season-closing spectacular episode of The Colbert Report, has made a gorgeous, instrumental space-folk recording with a little help from his friends.
In 2005, Chris Funk and his family moved into their new home in Portland's historic Mississippi neighborhood. He would play various instruments on his porch during hot summer nights, which caught the attention of his neighbors. He soon found out there was an unusual amount of musical activity on his block, and that he was surrounded by closet folksmen and recovering band geeks. Funk invited his neighbors in for weekly living room hootenannies, and this recording documents those times in an array of cover songs and original "jams" written in a haze fueled by fellowship, libations, and other unmentionables.
