Plays Music is 33.3's 2nd full length, and first as a five piece. Adding trumpet, trombone and upright bass to their already lush sounding musical mix, we feel that on this release, 33.3 have finally come into their own. The group spent a week here in Chicago recording at Steve Albini's EAR studio with Bob Weston (Shellac, x Volcano Suns, has recorded The Rachel's and A Minor Forest) behind the board.
The outcome is something we are quite proud of, with lush songs full of instrumentation and a new found structure for writing. This release moves them away from their angular songs and odd times signatures of past, and shows a much jazzier side to their musical approach.
This release continues to highlight their artistic tastes with regards to packaging. With design supplied again by Mark Owens, Plays Music looks as good as it sounds! The lp is available on black wax with a full color insert and the cd comes in a digipak. Be the first of your friends to get this one now, cause the future is bright for these five musicians...
